Overall purpose of the Role:
The role of the Family and Community Development Worker is to support and work in close collaboration with the Project Coordinator to implement the organisations’ aims and objectives as specified in the work plan. The work is centred on families effected by a loved one’s substance abuse where the worker will create a safe space encouraging participants to reflect on their situation and build confidence in their decision-making abilities. In addition, the Worker will be tasked with the development and implementation of programmes and activities that will benefit people attending the service.
Key Areas of Work:
Family Support
- Provide support and information to individuals attending NSFP on a one-to-one and group basis.
- Work with other staff to develop and deliver appropriate Family Support Interventions
- Plan, implement and evaluate projects and programmes
- Continue to work in partnership with other organisations for the delivery of adult educational/social activities
- Create awareness of issues arising for families effected by substance abuse in the community
- Support individuals to access additional supports outside of the Project
- Provide Outreach Services of NSFP to the community
- To assess the changing needs of the community
Teamwork, Planning, and Information Sharing
- Meet with Coordinator as required for planning/reporting
- Work with the Coordinator to identify, develop and promote Policy and Procedures
- Organise and facilitate training for community and professional groups in the area of substance abuse.
- Work in partnership with local agencies to ensure an integrated approach.
- Liaise with relevant agencies at citywide and national level in the voluntary and statutory sector
Administration
- Draw up workplan and ensure that all targets and work schedules are adhered to
- Prepare monthly activity and achievement report for Board of Management
- Keep all records as required
- Write up relevant reports to funding agencies
- Advertise services to ensure Communities are aware of supports available
Training
- The Family Support Worker will participate in appropriate Training and Development that the Manager deems suitable.
General
- Undertake other relevant duties as requested from time to time by the Coordinator
- Take responsibility with other staff for the general work of the Centre
